Most of us fear getting older until it happens, and most of us want to know how to help our parents age gracefully and live longer and healthier. With modern medicine, it is easier than ever before to live healthily even during the final stages of life. One thing you can do to help your senior mom or dad is to hire senior home care to ensure they are sticking to a daily routine and taking all of the necessary steps to age gracefully. Senior home care is also a wonderful option for adult children worried about their parents aging in place.

There are several other ways to age better and you can recommend them to your senior who wishes to feel younger than they are. Here are a few ways to slow the aging process:

Start Consuming High Protein Foods

Consume protein-rich meals, such as fish, turkey, egg whites, and tofu. As a general guideline, one gram of protein per kilogram of body weight is sufficient. Select foods that are high in protein and low in fat. Protein decreases insulin levels, which you want to maintain in check to reduce weight gain and illness risk. Eating protein also maintains stable blood sugar levels, which minimizes stress, which in turn helps maintain cortisol levels in control.

Always Focus on Stress Level

The extracts of the magnolia flower, green tea, and milk peptide are all available at local health food stores and may be used to alleviate stress. Maybe a senior needs to focus on moving more to burn off anxious energy or they need to get a massage to help with stress aches. Too much stress can make a senior feel older than they really are.

Focus on Moving Your Body

As a senior ages, it can be easy to forget to move around or it may not feel great to move. However, one of the fastest ways to age and feel more uncomfortable is by not moving enough. Physical activity increases the production of growth hormone, a critical role in maintaining young. Growth hormone affects everything, including skin, libido, weight gain, muscle mass, and energy level – almost every sign and symptom associated with aging.

Get Enough Sleep

There is a myth saying that seniors need less sleep but that just isn’t true. To remain feeling young and alert a senior still needs 8-9 hours of sleep at night. Their sleeping times may change going to bed earlier and waking up earlier but they still need to get deep sleep to feel better and battle any fatigue they feel.

Learn to Relax

Most seniors will not have jobs and this can lead to some anxiety. They may not know what to do during their retirement years and it can be difficult for them to learn to use this time to enjoy friends, family, and life. Learning to relax is a skill that not everyone possesses. However, learning to sit back, relax, and smile more is one of the best ways to feel youthful as a senior.
