Overview of Homemaking Services
  • Running errands and grocery shopping, including going to a local farmer’s market such as Old Town Farmers’ Market or Del Ray Farmers’ Market
  • Light seasonal meal planning and preparation
  • Summer-focused housekeeping: tidying indoor/outdoor spaces, watering plants, and keeping the house cool and comfortable
  • Laundry, linens, and refreshing bed changes for warmer weather

During the summer months, our Caregivers can also assist with more seasonal needs.

Summer Housekeeping
  • Supervision and support when walking outdoors
  • Consistent hydration reminders throughout the day
  • Help keep you cool while indoors
  • Regular watering and care of houseplants and porch plants
  • Clearing walkways of pollen, leaves, or debris to reduce fall risk
  • Help organize closets, cabinets, or seasonal storage
  • Help store medications properly, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. As extreme temperatures can degrade some medications
Seasonal Meal Planning & Preparation

Nutrition and hydration are especially important in hot weather. Caregivers help clients stay nourished and comfortable by:

  • Preparing cool or low-cooked meals to reduce kitchen heat
  • Customizing menus for hydration and digestion support in heat
  • Ensuring easy access to cold water and electrolytes throughout the day
  • Washing dishes promptly to prevent odors in warmer weather
Wardrobe/Clothes Transition

Adjusting wardrobes for summer can improve comfort and reduce overheating. Homemaking services may include:

  • Rotating out winter clothing and bringing forward lighter, breathable fabrics
  • Ensuring daily outfits include light-colored, loose-fitting options
  • Organizing easy access to hats, sunglasses and lightweight outerwear
  • Checking clothing for UV protection when appropriate for outdoor use

  • Keep cool indoors by checking thermostats or drawing shades and curtains during high sun
  • Ensure all windows and doors are properly secured to maintain the indoor temperature
  • Encourage and monitor hydration regularly
  • Making sure sunglasses and hats are within easy reach
  • Track time spent outside and encourage breaks in the shade
  • Help with safe pet care in summer heat, including feeding and light walks

Additional Summer Support

  • Preparing homes for family visits or summer events
  • Checking emergency contacts and reviewing storm preparation needs in regions with summer weather risks
