National Wellness Month

Making small changes to your daily life can have a large impact on your wellness.

National Wellness Month is celebrated every August. It is the perfect time to reflect on your own physical, mental, and emotional wellness. At Griswold Home Care for Westminster, Broomfield, & Boulder, we’re happy to share some wellness tips for seniors throughout our community.

Wellness Tips for Seniors in Broomfield

  • Stay connected with your local community, engage with friends and family regularly
  • Challenge your mind, whether that’s doing puzzles, reading books, playing games, or learning a new hobby
  • Stretch often, this can help improve mindfulness and balance
  • Stay physically active, try to go for at least one walk daily
  • Drink plenty of water, aim for at least 8 cups each day
  • Ensure you are getting plenty of sleep, aim for 7-9 hours every night

Using Technology to Improve Wellness

One of the ways we improve wellness in our community is through the use of innovative technologies. They allow us to provide the best in-home care possible. Through programs like our 24/7 virtual care, Lifeguard, and Able Care, we are better able to serve our clients and their families.

Our 24/7 virtual care delivers continuous monitoring to ensure your loved one remains safe, even when no Caregivers are present. When used in conjunction with our traditional in-home care, we are able to provide peace of mind to families about how their loved one is doing at any moment. This audio-only system is able to detect falls, physical distress, calls for help, signs of cognitive decline, infections, medication mistakes, and more.

Lifeguard is one of our newest tools to better serve our community. Lifeguard uses a discreet system that includes no microphones, no cameras, and no wearables. This system is able to understand general patterns like sleep, movement, and daily routines. When something is off, such as a long period of inactivity, our 24/7 Alert Center reaches out to make sure your loved one is doing ok.

Able Care and their tool, Able Assess, allow us to offer a quick strength screening. Through this, we are able to understand mobility, balance, and strength to evaluate fall risk. A brief screening can help identify areas to strengthen, so older adults can feel more confident moving through their daily routines.

GUIDE Dementia Program

We are happy to partner with several local organizations to provide respite care to qualifying dementia clients completely free of charge. The GUIDE program is a Medicare program designed to support individuals with dementia. The program provides eligible families with up to 76 hours of free respite care each year, giving family caregivers some time to take care of themselves as well. You may be eligible for the GUIDE program if you:

  • Have a dementia diagnosis
  • Are enrolled in Traditional Medicare Parts A and B
  • Are not currently receiving hospice services
  • Do not reside in a skilled nursing facility
