Understanding the GUIDE Dementia Program
Category:
If you or a loved one is living with dementia, you may be eligible to receive up to 76 hours of free in-home care services.
Caring for a loved one living with dementia can be rewarding, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Griswold is here to support you on your caregiving journey and help you understand resources that may be available through the GUIDE Model.
What is the GUIDE Program?
The GUIDE Model is a Medicare program designed to support individuals living with dementia and the family caregivers who care for them. As part of the program, eligible families may receive respite care benefits that provide temporary relief for caregivers while their loved one receives quality care and companionship at home.
Qualifying families can receive up to 76 hours of respite care annually, for no charge.
You may be eligible for GUIDE benefits if you:
- Have a dementia diagnosis
- Are enrolled in Traditional Medicare Parts A and B
- Are not currently receiving hospice services
- Do not reside in a skilled nursing facility
What is Respite Care?
Respite Care is when an in-home Caregiver provides relief to the primary family Caregiver, giving you a moment to catch your breath, so you can avoid burnout. This can be for as little as a few hours a day, a few hours a week, or a few months during a particularly busy time.
