What Is the Better Options School of Nursing?

Better Options School of Nursing is a CNA school in Vancouver, WA. Certified nursing assistants, or CNAs, are integral to supporting patient care. That’s what inspired the school’s founder, Faia Steven. Faia has an extensive background as a Caregiver, nurse educator, and advocate. She knows firsthand how important CNAs are in a patient’s life.

Here are some details about the Better Options School of Nursing CNA program:

• The program takes 18 days to complete. You will also need an additional day to complete the Washington State Skills Exam.
• Tuition covers the state skills exam. In addition, CPR/first aid certification, a TB test, and job placement assistance are also covered.
• The curriculum includes lectures and hands-on labs, as well as clinical training.
• There are options for day classes, evening classes, and hybrid classes. The day and hybrid classes take place Mondays-Fridays. Evening classes take place Wednesdays through Sundays.
• The school is very transparent about the price of tuition: the cost is $1,505.39, along with a $100 registration fee. Two organizations may be able to assist with funding: The Long-Term Care Foundation of Washington State and WorkSource WA.

Why Are Caregivers So Important?

Griswold Caregivers support the unique needs of aging individuals and those with chronic conditions, illnesses, and injuries. Aging and navigating a new diagnosis can sometimes come with a loss of independence. Those factors can make it difficult to complete activities of daily living without help.

Our Caregivers can help maintain a sense of independence. By providing personalized assistance in the home, they ensure needs are being met. This is exactly why Dr. Jean Griswold founded our company. In 1982, Jean found out that a community member died of complications that could have been prevented through in-home support. This event inspired her to establish one of the first non-medical home care organizations in the country, now known as Griswold.

How Is Griswold Caregiving Evolving?

Earlier this summer, members of our team traveled to the Griswold Home Office for a course on dementia care support. Linda Hess, one of our Owners/Directors, and Jenny Revell, our Client Care Specialist, flew across the country to participate in the Griswold PATH (Personalized Approach, Training, and Holistic Support) Program.

The Griswold PATH Certification Masterclass will further enable us to provide compassionate, expert dementia care. The program focuses on person-centered care, with an emphasis on dignity, independence, and trust. We got to learn more about the best ways to meet Clients where they are and adapt to varying communication styles. We also discussed how to create moments of connection, even as cognition changes with progressing dementia. We’re proud of our fellow graduates and look forward to using all this new knowledge to help the members of our community navigate dementia.
