A Griswold Home Care community guide • Fall 2026

Crisp air, colorful leaves and community traditions make fall one of the best times to get out and enjoy Connecticut. For older adults in Stratford, there are plenty of seasonal activities that can be enjoyed at a comfortable pace, whether that means browsing a farmers market, listening to live music, visiting a classic fair or simply taking in the scenery with family or a caregiver.

The Great Pumpkin Festival — Stratford

October 17, 2026

Stratford’s Great Pumpkin Festival is one of the town’s signature fall celebrations. It is a festive choice for seniors who enjoy seasonal displays, community atmosphere, food and a relaxed opportunity to spend time outdoors. Because it is right in Stratford, it can also be an easier outing for older adults who prefer to stay close to home.

Downtown Milford Farmers Market — Milford

Saturdays through October 10, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

A short drive from Stratford, this Saturday market is an easy way to enjoy the flavors of fall without committing to an all-day event. Browse local produce, baked goods and seasonal items, then pair the outing with coffee or lunch in downtown Milford.

East Haven Fall Festival — East Haven

September 11–13, 2026

For seniors who enjoy live entertainment and the feel of a traditional community festival, East Haven’s fall celebration makes a fun day trip. Go earlier in the day for a quieter experience and bring a folding seat or plan regular rest stops if standing for long periods is difficult.

The Guilford Fair — Guilford

September 18–20, 2026

A classic Connecticut agricultural fair can bring back wonderful memories. The Guilford Fair offers the sights and sounds of an old-fashioned New England fair, with agricultural traditions, food and entertainment. Seniors may especially enjoy visiting during daytime hours when it is typically easier to navigate.

The Durham Fair — Durham

September 24–27, 2026

One of Connecticut’s best-known agricultural fairs is worth the drive for seniors who love animals, exhibits, local food and traditional fall entertainment. Consider choosing just a few favorite attractions rather than trying to cover the entire fairgrounds in one visit.

Making Fall Outings Senior-Friendly

Fall outings do not have to be strenuous to be meaningful. A morning at a market, an hour listening to music or a drive through changing leaves can provide connection, stimulation and something special to look forward to. When planning an outing with an older adult, check the weather, confirm event details, wear supportive shoes and consider parking and walking distance in advance.

Plan ahead: Event dates, hours, admission and accessibility details can change. Check with the event organizer before heading out.
