Why is it Important for Seniors to Stay Active?

As you age, you may find yourself spending more time alone. This can lead to loneliness and feeling socially isolated. While that might not sound horrible, it can have serious consequences on your health and overall well-being. Social isolation and loneliness have been associated with higher risks for several serious health conditions. These include high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, weakened immune system, anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, dementia and Alzheimer’s, and death. Also, those who are lonely or feel socially isolated may get too little exercise, drink too much alcohol, smoke, and/or sleep poorly. All of which can further increase your risk for developing a serious health condition.

Pumpkin Patches

MacDonald’s Ranch is a local family-owned farm that offers Scottsdale residents a great fall experience. Their attractions include a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, hay maze, carnival games, and several other fall-themed activities for the whole family. Tickets must be purchased at the door, and senior citizens get a discount. They are open through the end of October.

Vertuccio Farms offers farm-friendly fun in Mesa. A family-owned farm that started when their owners moved from New York to Arizona and purchased land in Chandler. They host many events throughout the year, but their main attraction is their annual Fall Festival, which goes from the beginning of October through November 2nd. Tickets are required to attend, and amenities include carnival games, a petting zoo, mini golf, and a pumpkin patch. They will also be hosting the #LOVEPUP Family Fest on November 15th. This event will feature live music, food trucks, and plenty of puppy love. All proceeds will be going to #Lovepup, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing dogs across the Valley.
