Honoring Veterans and Military Caregivers Month
Category:
May is recognized as both National Military Appreciation Month and the Month of the Military Caregiver, a time to honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, as well as the dedicated caregivers who support them every day.
At Griswold Home Care for Oahu, we are proud to serve veterans and their families in Hawaii by providing compassionate in-home care services that help veterans remain safe, comfortable, and independent in the place they call home.
Recognizing the Vital Role of Military Caregivers
Behind many veterans is a devoted family member or loved one providing regular care and support. From meal preparation and transportation to assistance with bathing, dressing, mobility, and daily routines, caregivers play an essential role in maintaining a veteran’s quality of life.
While caregiving is deeply meaningful, it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Many caregivers experience stress, fatigue, and burnout as they balance caregiving responsibilities with work, family obligations, and their own health. Support is not just helpful – it’s essential.
That’s where respite care can make a powerful difference.
What Is Respite Care?
Respite care provides temporary relief for family caregivers while ensuring veterans continue to receive high-quality care in the comfort of their homes. Professional caregivers step in to provide assistance with multiple activities of daily living (ADLs), allowing primary caregivers time to rest, attend appointments, run errands, travel, or simply recharge.
Respite care services may include help with:
- Bathing and personal grooming
- Dressing and mobility support
- Meal preparation and eating assistance
- Transportation to appointments
- Companionship, supervision, and medication reminders
- Support with household routines such as laundry, dishwashing, light cleaning, changing linens, making the bed, running errands, and more.
These services benefit not only caregivers but also enhance the well-being, safety, and comfort of veterans.
Griswold Home Care for Oahu and the VA Community Care Network
Griswold Home Care for Oahu is proud to be a credentialed VA Community Care Network (CCN) provider. The CCN is a program that connects veterans with community-based healthcare providers when the local VA facility cannot provide the timely or required and requested specialized care. CCN is the VA’s direct link with non-VA, community providers to ensure veterans receive timely, high-quality care at little to no cost to the veteran.
In addition to respite care and caregiver support services, eligible veterans may receive homemaker and home health services through the CCN, preserving each veteran’s dignity, comfort, and independence at home.
As a VA-credentialed provider, Griswold helps to educate Veterans and their loved ones about these and other healthcare benefits they may be eligible for, and the process for accessing VA benefits.
