How do I know if my loved one needs live-in care?
Your loved one may benefit from live-in care if they need help throughout the day, have difficulty completing daily tasks, are at risk of falling, feel lonely or isolated, or if family caregivers are becoming overwhelmed.
What is included in live-in home care?
Live-in home care may include personal care assistance, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, medication reminders, mobility support, companionship, errands, transportation, and help with morning or bedtime routines.
Does a live-in caregiver sleep at the home?
Yes. In many live-in care arrangements, the caregiver stays in the home and has designated time for rest and sleep. If your loved one needs frequent assistance overnight, 24-hour care may be a better option.
Is live-in care the same as 24-hour care?
Not always. Live-in care usually includes a caregiver staying in the home with rest periods, while 24-hour care often involves multiple caregivers rotating shifts to provide continuous awake coverage. What does the family need to provide for a live-in caregiver?
Families typically provide a private sleeping area and access to basic household amenities. Specific requirements can vary, so it is best to discuss details during the care planning process.
Can live-in care be temporary?
Yes. Live-in care can often be arranged on a temporary or ongoing basis. Families may use it during recovery from surgery, after a hospital stay, while a family caregiver is away, or as long-term support for aging in place.
Is live-in care only for seniors?
Live-in care is commonly used by older adults, but it may also help adults with disabilities, chronic conditions, recovery needs, or anyone who requires consistent non-medical support at home.
Can live-in caregivers help with dementia or memory concerns?
Yes. Live-in caregivers can provide reminders, routine support, companionship, and supervision for individuals with memory concerns. For those with advanced dementia or frequent overnight needs, the care plan may need to be adjusted. Live-in care provides continuity for the client with one caregiver, which is great for remembering and feeling comfortable with their caregiver.
How is a live-in caregiver matched with my loved one?
Caregiver matching often considers your loved one’s care needs, personality, routine, preferences, and any special considerations. The goal is to create a comfortable and supportive relationship.
What areas do you serve for live-in home care?
Griswold provides home care services in Bethel, Danbury, Newtown, Ridgefield, Redding, Brookfield, New Milford, new Fairfield and the surrounding area. Families can contact the local office to confirm service availability in their specific town or neighborhood.
How quickly can live-in care begin?
The start time depends on your loved one’s needs, caregiver availability, and the care planning process. In many cases, care can begin within 24 hours after an initial consultation and care plan are completed. Our offices have a fantastic live-in caregiver base and can start cases pretty quickly.
Can live-in care help prevent caregiver burnout?
Yes. Live-in care can relieve family caregivers by sharing daily responsibilities and providing consistent support. This allows family members to rest, manage other obligations, and spend more quality time with their loved one. If family has a vacation planned but cannot leave their loved one alone, we can put a live-in caregiver in for that vacation time.
Is live-in care customized to my loved one’s schedule?
Yes. Live-in care is typically personalized around the client’s daily routine, preferences, health needs, meals, activities, and family expectations. We go over the client’s routine in depth during a free in-home consultation.
What is the difference between live-in care and assisted living?
Live-in care allows a person to receive support at home, while assisted living requires moving into a residential community. Live-in care can provide one-on-one assistance in a familiar environment. Assisted living does not provide consistent one-on-one care, and in some cases, we provide live-in services to clients in assisted living due to their increased needs.
What services can a live-in caregiver provide?
A live-in caregiver may help with bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, mobility support, medication reminders, errands, transportation, companionship, and daily routines. They can also assist with any PT and OT exercises. They can assist with facets of companionship and activities reading a book out loud, gardening, assisting with family zoom calls, assisting with watching Mass online, playing cards and a lot of other things!
