Adult Day Care
Category:
Many people use Adult Day care for 2-5 days a week to add some planned activities to their loved one’s routine and/or also to provide them with some additional socialization.
Some may supplement this with one-on-one Home Care on the “off” days. Others may use Adult Day Care during the day and add one on one Home Care for the evening or overnight.
Most offer food and planned activities that address our need for socialization, proper nutrition, mental stimulation and exercise.
There are a number of options available in Hillsborough and Pasco counties. Three that we will cover today are: Private, County sponsored, and the Long-Term Care PACE programs.
Participants should be ambulatory and able to participate in the activities provided by the adult day care.
Private Options
- Most have half day and full day options. They also allow folks to come on a daily or weekly basis
- Cost is around $100 for a full day and $50 for a half day as compared to about $240/120 for a dedicated caregiver.
- The two we are most familiar with are Jamie’s Adult Day Care and Generations Club
- Jamies’s Adult Day Care is about ten years old and is the current “Gold Standard” for local Adult Day Care.
- Jamie Goddard- Stern and her sister Julie Goddard are the owners. Julie is a long time leader in the Hillsborough senior industry with a background as a professional Guardian and Trustee, working primarily with the disabled and senior population. Jamie is the CEO and Chief Operating Officer. Her background is in nursing (BS) and Hospice. Both have extensive experience with Dementia clients/patients (particularly Alzheimer’s related dementia).
- JADC is located off of North Dale Mabry near Sunlake and draws primarily from south Pasco and north Hillsborough.
- They specialize in Dementia care with programming covering expressive arts, cognitive exercises, music therapy and pet therapy.
- They also offer scheduled salon services to include haircuts, manicures/pedicures, shaving, etc.

Generations Club is the new kid on the block, opening only a few months ago.
- It is located on Dale Mabry Blvd just south of Advent Hospital Carrollwood
- The managing owner is Kim Kasper. He also has been active in the senior industry for many years, owning one of the few remaining local durable medical equipment companies. He and his family were inspired to start Generations following his father in law’s physical and mental decline, so they too have experience with the aging process and its effect on us.
Their approach is unique in a number of ways:
- Generations Club has multiple themed activity rooms aimed at making socialization fun and enabling varied opportunities to engage with other members.
- Activities are targeted to cognitive capacity
- In addition to the themed activity rooms, they have special space set aside for scheduled mobile medical assistance. So, in addition to salon/barber services, they have partnered with an array of medical professional that will be visiting monthly (Audiology, Dental, Physical Therapy, Internal Medicine, etc.). This is particularly helpful, since it means you can schedule attendance around medical professional availability and not have to take time off to transport your loved one to various appointments.
- They also have their own transportation

PACE Programs:
