Respite Care: San Antonio Family Caregivers Need Support
Category:
Caring for a loved one full-time is rewarding — but it can also be exhausting. Family caregivers often dedicate their energy and time to ensuring their loved one’s well-being, sometimes at the cost of their own health and happiness. As the saying goes, “you can’t pour from an empty cup.”
Respite care is designed to help family caregivers recharge. It provides short-term, professional support so you can take care of your own needs without worrying about your loved one.
Why Respite Care is Essential
You don’t always need full-time help — even a few hours or days of respite care can make a big difference. It allows you to rest, run errands, attend appointments, or simply take a break while knowing your loved one is in capable, compassionate hands.
Griswold Home Care offers flexible respite care services tailored to your schedule. Our trained caregivers ensure that your loved one receives consistent, high-quality care so you can focus on self-care.
Compassionate and Reliable Care
At Griswold Home Care, our caregivers are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. We understand that peace of mind is essential for family caregivers. Our team provides not only professional assistance with daily activities but also companionship, emotional support, and kindness.
By building meaningful relationships, our caregivers enhance the quality of life for your loved one while giving you the time you need to recharge. We match experienced caregivers to your family’s unique needs to ensure comfort, trust, and continuity of care.
Supporting Caregivers Through Self-Care
We also prioritize self-care for our caregivers. When they face illness, personal challenges, or emergencies, we encourage them to rest and reset. We believe that caregivers who care for themselves provide the best care to others — a principle that extends to you as a family caregiver.
Respite care ensures you can take the time to rest and recover, so you can continue providing loving, high-quality care for your family member.
Common Respite Care Schedules
Respite care in San Antonio is designed to be highly flexible, allowing families to choose a schedule that fits their specific needs and routines. Some may only need a few hours of support each week for errands or appointments, while others benefit from longer daily visits, overnight care, or even short-term 24-hour coverage during travel or periods of caregiver burnout. Many families also use respite care on an as-needed basis without committing to a long-term schedule.
At Griswold Home Care, services can be tailored to provide everything from occasional relief to consistent, ongoing support, ensuring caregivers have the freedom to recharge while their loved ones continue receiving compassionate care at home. We do not have any weekly minimum’s and only a 2 hour shift minimum.
VA Respite Program
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers an in-home respite care benefit that allows eligible Veterans to receive temporary support from a trained caregiver in the comfort of their own home. This service helps with everyday activities such as personal care, meal preparation, and companionship, giving family caregivers time to rest or handle other responsibilities. In many cases, Veterans may qualify for up to 20 respite hours per week, which can often be used flexibly (such as a few hours at a time). Eligibility is based on enrollment in VA health care and clinical need, and services are typically coordinated through the Veteran’s VA care team.
At Griswold Home Care we are happy to help you enroll in the VA program or meet to discuss scheduling options. Feel free to contact us through our website or call the office directly – 210-496-9993.
