Did you know that since 2022, our Griswold Home Care for the Poconos office has proudly served 73 local Veterans in the East Stroudsburg and Poconos areas?

Currently, 33% of the families we support are Veterans, more than a third of those we serve. We are honored to serve those who put their lives on the line for our country.

Many Veterans and their families in the Poconos and East Stroudsburg areas may not realize they qualify for benefits that can help pay for home care services. These benefits make it possible for Veterans to live safely and independently in their own homes. Griswold is here to help you navigate the process and ensure that you or your loved one receives the proper care they deserve.

If you or a loved one is a U.S. Veteran in the Poconos or East Stroudsburg area, Griswold Home Care can help you explore Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits that may significantly reduce or even cover the cost of home care. The Department of Veterans Affairs is a federal organization that supports Veterans and provides health benefits. Our office is contracted to accept VA authorizations from any state, and we have extensive experience working with VA offices in New Jersey and New York, making the process smoother for local families.

Whether you need assistance with daily tasks, companionship, or relief for family caregivers, our dedicated team ensures that Veterans receive the highest level of care in the comfort of their own homes. If you’re ready to apply, we’ll provide the information and resources you need to receive what you deserve. Read on to learn what VA benefits you or a loved one may qualify for.

VA Benefits You Might Be Eligible For

Aid & Attendance: Aid & Attendance is an enhanced benefit program you can add to a VA pension or Survivors Pension if you meet medical, service, and financial criteria. To be eligible for this program, a Veteran must qualify for a VA Pension.

With A&A, a Veteran receives a cash pension. The application process typically takes 3-6 months and can be rigorous, but our office can help Veterans navigate it and obtain access to their pension. Veterans with care needs may qualify for benefits up to $2,300/month. This pension can be used to pay for home care services, allowing Veterans to receive the support they need at home. We can help you understand your options and learn if you might be eligible.

Community Care Network (CCN): The Community Care Network is a VA program that allows eligible Veterans to access healthcare and home health services outside VA facilities through approved providers like Griswold Home Care. With CCN, Veterans Affairs pays the provider directly.

This benefit is available to Veterans who have a service-related disability. This includes a wide range of conditions, from hearing loss to more severe injuries like losing a limb. Note that this benefit is only available to Veterans, not their spouses. The VA uses a tier process based on disability percentage, and eligibility does not depend on how much money or assets you own.

Non-medical support, such as personal care and light housekeeping, can be covered through VA community care programs, including Homemaker and Home Health Aide services. However, this requires VA approval, and you must meet specific eligibility criteria. The initial CCN authorization typically covers 8-12 hours per week, but this can be increased to up to 180 hours per week based on the Veteran’s needs.

Many Veterans can use both the Aid & Attendance program and the Community Care Network. This results in more comprehensive care and provides greater support.

Respite Care Program: A service that pays for a Caregiver to come to a Veteran’s home or for a Veteran to attend an adult health care program while their family Caregiver takes a break or runs errands. This benefit provides essential relief for family members while ensuring the Veteran continues to receive quality care at home.

VA Pensions: For wartime Veterans and their spouses or survivors who meet certain service, income, and asset criteria. To be eligible, a Veteran must meet these requirements. These pensions can help cover the cost of non-medical home care services, enabling Veterans to stay in their homes longer.
