A Griswold Home Care community guide • Fall 2026

Fall in lower Fairfield County offers the best of both worlds: waterfront events, bustling farmers markets and easy access to classic New England scenery. Seniors in Norwalk can enjoy the season without traveling far, and many outings can be shortened or adapted for a more comfortable pace.

48th Annual Norwalk Oyster Festival — Norwalk

September 11–13, 2026

Norwalk’s signature Oyster Festival returns to Veterans Memorial Park with food and entertainment on multiple stages. Seniors who enjoy live music and community events may prefer arriving earlier in the day before the largest crowds. The festival describes itself as offering activities for visitors ‘from nine to ninety.’

Westport Farmers’ Market — Westport

Thursdays through November 5, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Just minutes from Norwalk, the Westport Farmers’ Market features more than 50 curated vendors. It is a great place to pick up fall produce, baked goods and specialty foods while enjoying a daytime community outing.

A Fall Visit to Historic South Norwalk & the Waterfront — Norwalk

Any pleasant fall day

For seniors who prefer a flexible outing, spend an hour or two around South Norwalk or the waterfront. Choose a favorite café or restaurant, take a short stroll and enjoy the cooler weather without the schedule or crowds of a major festival.

Bruce Museum Outdoor Arts Festival — Greenwich

October 10–11, 2026

Art lovers can head down the coast to Greenwich for the Bruce Museum’s annual outdoor arts festival. Painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and other works make this a stimulating outing for seniors who enjoy museums, galleries and creative events.

Scenic Fall Drive: Wilton, Weston & Redding

Best in October; foliage timing varies

A country drive is one of the easiest ways to enjoy Connecticut foliage, especially for older adults who cannot comfortably walk long distances. From Norwalk, head north through Wilton and Weston toward Redding, with an optional stop for lunch or cider.

Making Fall Outings Senior-Friendly

A successful senior outing is less about how much you fit into the day and more about enjoying the experience. Build in time to sit, have a snack, use the restroom and simply take in the scenery. For large festivals, checking accessibility and parking information before leaving is especially helpful.

Plan ahead: Event dates, hours, admission and accessibility details can change. Check with the event organizer before heading out.
