Pancreatic Cancer Association of Western New York – PCAWNY is a nonprofit organization committed to creating awareness, raising funds to support research, and advocating for individuals and families affected by pancreatic cancer. PCAWNY, an all-volunteer organization, is a reflection of the stories and faces of pancreatic cancer in our community. Our very own co-owner, Mary Pettinaro, is one of the founders of PCAWNY.
Meet the Founders of PCAWNY
In 2009, our co-owner Mary Pettinaro, lost her brother to pancreatic cancer. Mary joined forces with Judy Rockafellow and Lynn Platt who were also deeply affected by the disease. What began as shared grief quickly turned into action. In 2010, the group organized a 5K walk to raise funds for local pancreatic cancer research. The overwhelming response made it clear, and the community of Greater Rochester was there in support.
By 2012, their efforts led to the formal founding of the Pancreatic Cancer Association of WNY, dedicated to research, advocacy, and support for those facing this devastating diagnosis. Our co-owner Mary continues to lead with empathy, purpose, and a deep commitment to care. To make a difference, beating pancreatic cancer takes awareness, research, money, and passion. 2025 Pancreatic Cancer Association of Western New York Golf Tournament
We proudly sponsored the cannon ball hole at the 2025 Pancreatic Cancer Association of WNY Golf Tournament, held at the Eagle Vale Golf Club. This event honors Michael F. Contestabile, Mary’s brother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2010. The tournament was started in 2010 by colleagues of Michael to honor his memory after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer. PCAWNY is the region’s only organization dedicated to raising awareness, funding research, and providing patient support for pancreatic cancer. We are grateful for the continued community support that makes this tournament possible!

Since 2010, PCAWNY has raised nearly $1 million for the Wilmot Cancer Institute and played a key role in Wilmot earning its National Institute designation, a distinction held by only about 4 percent of U.S. cancer centers.
Supporting pancreatic cancer requires coordinated action: raising awareness, funding research, and fostering commitment. By sponsoring, hosting an event, or donating to PCAWNY, your hope and help drive the search for a cure. Donate here!
