Gardens and other sites on and around the Main Line

Happy Spring! A study by the American Cancer Society found that walking is linked to lower mortality, including for older Americans. Here in Delco, we’re lucky to have lots of places to walk around and enjoy the season. See below for a list of upcoming events and destinations you can visit with your loved ones – a Griswold Caregiver may be able to accompany you!

Villanova, Wayne, & More

Villanova

Stoneleigh is a nonprofit public garden on the Main Line where you can see beautiful displays of native plants. Some of their path surfaces are porous pavement and bluestone, while others are mown grass. They’re currently looking for volunteers to help with spring gardening.

  • Hours: Tuesday – Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Wayne

Chanticleer is a pleasure garden known for its world-class horticultural artistry. The 35-acre estate showcases both historical and contemporary features. There is a one-mile paved path that is perfect for wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

  • Location: 786 Church Road, Wayne, PA 19087
  • Hours: Wednesday – Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., as well as the first Saturday of each month at 8:00 a.m.

Did you know the Lancaster County Farmer’s Market is located in Wayne? This is the perfect stop for fresh produce, meats, seafood, and baked breads. There are also hot and prepared options. Inside the market, Angel’s Café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

  • Location: 389 West Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087
  • Hours: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

At the Wayne Art Center, you can check out award-winning galleries, gardens, facilities, and a gallery shop. Their Plein Air Festival is coming up in May! This outdoor painting festival will welcome 32 artists from May 10 to June 20.

Media

Pick-your-own asparagus and tulips are both open now at Linvilla Orchards! You can also fish at Orchard Lake, visit the barnyard animals, shop for produce and goods at the farm market, and browse plants and supplies at the garden center.

  • Hours: Friday – Saturday and Sunday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Tyler Arboretum is a 650-acre property of woodlands and meadows. They have several gardens and a bunch of cool features to check out, like treehouses and a pollinator preserve. There is leveled and ramped access to paved paths through most of the arboretum. Their Fragrant Garden is a great option for those with low vision, blindness, or partial sight.

Garnet Valley

At Booth’s Corner Farmers Market, you’ll find not only baked goods, fruits, vegetables, sliced meats, and cheeses, but also jewelry, candles, craft supplies, and more. The market has been run by the same family since the 1950’s, which lends well to the friendly atmosphere.

  • Hours: Friday – Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
