How Veterans Can Pay for Care
As a Veteran, you have access to several benefits from the Veterans Administration. Taking advantage of these benefits, however, can be challenging. At Griswold, we’ve partnered with Paradigm to help offices get credentialed, assist with billing, and ensure timely reimbursement.
There isn’t one single VA program that covers all of home care, however, there are several different benefit plans. Some programs you may be eligible for include Community Care Network, which includes Homemaker/Home Health Aid & Respite Care, Aid & Attendance, Veteran Directed Care, and Caregiver Support Programs.
Example VA Service Available
Through the Community Care Network, one service you may be eligible to receive through the VA is Respite Care. This care allows you to take a break from being the primary caregiver, which can be tiring. It can be difficult to find time to take a break from your care responsibilities. If a Veteran in your life requires care, you may be eligible to receive up to 30 days of Respite Care per year from the VA. The care can be offered in a variety of settings, including at your home or through temporary placement of a Veteran at a VA Community Living Center, a VA-contracted Community Residential Care Facility, or an Adult Day Health Care Center.
If you have never tried home care services, Respite Care is a good place to start. With this service, a Griswold Caregiver can provide that much-needed break for you. Allowing you to do things such as visit friends, do personal chores, go to the gym, catch up on work, or take vacations.
Per the National Alliance for Caregiving, half of the caregivers who cited poorer health due to caregiving also noted that their poorer health affected their ability to provide care. Thus, it is vital to take time off from your caregiving duties. You want to be at your best to provide the best care. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your health as you care for them. Taking a break is as important for your loved ones as it is for you. Taking the opportunity for a short rest can renew your energy and rekindle your motivation.
