Respite Care

When caring for an aging parent or relative, days off are few and far between.

You may have several other responsibilities, such as your career, caring for your children, finances, household chores, social engagements, and more. Attempting to look after your aging parents on top of that while also trying to maintain your own physical and mental health is a challenge.

You are not alone. According to the AARP, 48 million family Caregivers in the United States currently look after an aging loved one. Of those 48 million, 67% report having difficulty balancing their jobs with their caregiving duties. While 1/6 have turned down a promotion because of caregiving responsibilities.

There is a way to get the help you need, so you can have a break and take care of yourself. It’s called Respite Care.

What is Respite Care?

If you have never tried home care services, Respite Care is a good place to start. A Griswold referred Caregiver can provide a much-needed break. Allowing primary Caregivers to do things such as visit friends, do personal chores, go to the gym, catch up on work, or take vacations.

Why is it necessary?

Taking a break is as important for your loved ones as it is for you. Taking the opportunity for a short rest can renew your energy and rekindle your motivation.

Per the National Alliance for Caregiving, half of the Caregivers who cited poorer health due to caregiving, also noted that their poorer health affected their ability to provide care. This demonstrates the importance of taking time off from your Caregiving duties. You want to be at your best to be able to provide them with the best care. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your health as you provide them care

Home Care in the Short-Term

Respite Care gives you a moment to catch your breath, helping you avoid burnout later. One of our referred Caregivers can help for a few hours a day, a few hours a week, or a few months during a particularly busy time. You may find that sharing responsibility for your aging loved one helps you to be a better, more patient, and more energized family Caregiver.
