If you are exploring home care options, you may be overwhelmed by the variety available. Maybe you’re asking what all of them mean?

Typical Home Care Options

Navigating home care choices is no easy task. There are many different choices for care available for those in need. At Griswold, we offer three essential care services: Companionship, Personal Care, and Homemaking. These three are at the core of nearly everything we do. Companionship for when your loved one could benefit from just having someone around to talk with and support their hobbies. Personal Care for when they need help bathing, toileting, or grooming themselves. Homemaking for when they need some extra support around the house, such as cooking or light housekeeping.

Other care services you may see when researching care are dementia care and dementia care support, post-surgery care support, hospice care, neuromuscular care, and fall prevention. You may also encounter respite care, for when you need a break, or Veteran-specific care. How this care is administered is another facet to consider. Do you need care for 8 hours a day each week, maybe only 4 hours a week, or do you need care all the time? At Griswold, we are happy to refer Caregivers who can be available from just a few hours a week to 24/7.

What is Live-In Home Care?

Live-in home care is exactly what it sounds like. A Caregiver will live in your home, or your loved one’s home, with them. They will help wake you up in the morning, get your day going, and help put you to bed each night. Live-in care is an ideal solution for those requiring continuous and consistent support. With live-in care, one of the added benefits is fostering a strong and meaningful relationship between the client and Caregiver that can significantly enhance the quality of life for your loved one. To ensure effective caregiving, it is essential that the Caregiver has adequate sleeping arrangements, private living quarters, and has 6-8 hours off each day. Generally, when the client is awake, the Caregiver is actively engaged in helping.

Other Around-the-Clock Care Options

Other options available to receive care around-the-clock include 24-hour care and overnight care. 24-hour care is perfect for when you need a Caregiver alert and are able to provide care in the middle of the night, but don’t want them living in the home. With this option, a team of Caregivers will take shifts while providing care. Overnight care gives you peace of mind that a Caregiver is standing by to provide support during the night hours.
